The clip quickly turned into an internet sensation with viewers trying to work
out whether Ferguson was merely pretending not to see the funny side, or
whether Rooney really had angered him with his cheek.
The latter appeared to gain more credence when the clip was removed by the
video sharing site YouTube on the instruction of Manchester United, although
the club insisted this was due to copyright infringements.
A club spokesman said: “If people want to see it, they can subscribe to MUTV.
The clip involving Wayne and the manager is still in the programme.”
Balding later tweeted: ’Wayne Rooney told me he had never played charades. And
there was me thinking that Fergie throwing the boot at Beckham was the thing
“never to be mentioned”.’
