WASTE and recycling products manufacturer Straight plc has offset its first 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide as part of a charity initiative.

The Leeds firm’s actions will support farmers in Africa.

The company has joined a scheme run by Plan Vivo to offset the carbon emissions associated with its manufacturing processes.

The carbon credits it receives can be traded with the developed world through Yorkshire charity United Bank of Carbon.

Jonathan Straight, chief executive of Straight plc, said: “Increasingly, I believe that carbon will be seen as an emerging ‘currency’.

“As a forward-looking company, we’re keen to explore its potential while as a responsible manufacturer working in an environmentally-aware industry, it is particularly important for us to make a contribution to tackling climate change.”
